Charity Jewelry Supply De
Charity Jewelry Supply De

My recent post about going through your jewelry and other crafting supplies and de stashing started an interesting conversation concerning what you do with supplies you may no longer want or need. Because Im doing it some of it myself on Etsy and Ive seen other jewelry makers doing it over there as well as discussing it on this sites forum, I assumed a lot of people consider reselling their supplies, not always with the intent to make a profit but to at the very least maybe break even and roll the money over into other supplies. However, a number of comments posted suggested giving supplies to charities as well.

As it happens, I do this pretty regularly, and while I go through everything, I have a box set aside for a particular group from the Emily Griffith Opportunity School who I know is always in need of jewelry making supplies. You can read about them as well as find an address if youd like to send supplies at their weblog, A Little Something. Sharon, who works with them, is a regular on our forums.

Comments from the previous de stash post include some other excellent ideas for donating such as local schools and nursing homes. Other ideas might be boys and girls clubs or any other non profit groups who work with children and/or the elderly.

Have you donated supplies before? If so, how was your experience? Maybe you can add some more place to this de stash charity list.

Comments are closed for this post.

See All Posts

July 24, 2008 at 11:26 pm

1 Ellie says:My comment on your 1st post was a non profit for people with cancer. You are sometimes so weak from treatment that you can get out much. Here you can feel at ease even with no hair using a wheel chair using a shoulder to cry on offering your own shoulder!

There are walks, auctions, runs to raise funding to keep our other open for all of us. Our families get to participate, too! They need suport as much as we do in some ways more! They have to be strong to care for us, after all. This club gives a respite for all who are touched, even the children. Sometimes it the children with the cancer. They need a place where others know what they are going thru have an idea of how they feel.

The group I belong to is Gilda Club. Named for Gilda Radner. says:I try to go through my things at least once a year and pull out the items I know I won use and send them off to charity. I am bad about buying things on clearance! But, it makes me feel good to know that others will get some goof out of my purchases that ended up not being exactly what I wanted.

July 28, 2008 at 1:24 pm

4 Patti says:I donate to the Ronald MacDonald house yearly sale in Rochester New York. After a while, realizing that I had never used most of them, I took out the few I used often and gave the rest to the Youth Center, which provides day care and other program for low income families. The kids loved all the colors, and the neat designs the scissors made. Now I try to clean out my stash of unused goodies regularly, and always take them over to the kids.
